Micro Learning: Your Simple Route To Lasting Progress

I have a bee in my bonnet at the moment about your time. Yup, I (literally) like awake at night trying to understand ways to help you use your work time more effectively so that you can get your To Do list ticked off and take meaningful actions towards your future too.

One way to unite these two (don't worry I'll come back to the funded L&D very shortly) is through Micro-Learning.

Micro-learning is a thing, right now - and rightly so.

Here’s the schtick:

Developed in response to our digitally-influenced behaviours, micro-learning is a highly engaging, efficient and cost-effective way to keep building your skills, and investing in your future, without giving away hours of your time.

There are plenty of platforms out there offering this type of highly formatted, blink-and-learn type offerings, and many are brilliant.

Here though ere are some ways to get Micro-Learning immediately and on your own:

🌟 Lower your learning expectations in terms of time committed
🌟 Get into a continual learning headspace - more and often
🌟 Select videos/podcasts that interest you, then set specific time limits - listen to a 20 minute pod over 4 consecutive days
🌟 Quick, pinpointed conversations with a purpose (no need to ask about the weather)

What I love about the micro-learning concept is that it takes into account Hermann Ebbinghaus forgetting curve, which in short, shows how quickly we forget - you are not alone, it’s a human thing.

We typically lose 80% of new knowledge within a month.

Micro-learning combats your forgetting curve by allowing you to revisit training over time, improve retention of the key points and enable you to incorporate regular learning into your daily work life. Plus, it has a sense of fun at its heart.
